I want you to be a million times prepared for a session with me. I know the stress of having a new little one, and the last thing you want to worry about is having a million unanswered questions about your photo session. It is my hope that all below helps ease your mind and readies you for a session with me (Sara).
I am not SUPER picky about when I see babies. I want you to feel comfortable coming to the studio or having me in your home. If I had to put my "favorite" time stamp on days after birth... it would probably be in that 7 to 14 day window.... During this time, babies are sleepier and easier to pose, and we can capture those precious curled-up poses. I do see babies from 5 days old to 5 weeks old, so don't stress too much about the timing!
Booking your session while you’re still pregnant ensures we can reserve a spot close to your due date... But since babies arrive on their own schedule, I always build flexibility into my calendar. Just let me know as soon as your little one is here, and we’ll confirm the date.
Before you pack the car and head to the studio OR before I arrive to you, try and give baby a feed; even if it is out of a feeding window. A well-fed, sleepy baby will make for a smoother session. Bring the baby inside the studio in the carseat and we will get started. Now, if baby doesn't want to eat at all before you leave we will likely need to take time to feed at the studio. This is totally fine, but do try and feed before you leave... there is something magical about that car ride to the studio that soothes babies to sleep (especially after they eat).
Diapering essentials -- now the studio has plenty of diapers and wipes, but if you prefer to use your own, bring them along!
Pacifier (even if you don’t normally use one, it can help soothe the baby temporarily)
The boob, breast milk or formula for mid-session feeding
Any family heirlooms or sentimental items you’d like included
When you arrive at my studio, after you come up the stairs, the you’ll find a warm, cozy environment tailored to keep your baby comfortable. I use soft lighting and calming sounds (the baby shusher) to create a soothing atmosphere.
A typical newborn session lasts 1-1.5 hours. This allows for plenty of time for feeding, diaper changes, and cuddles. There’s no rush—we move at your baby’s pace. It might be shorter or longer and that is ok, I have it all planned out!
Your baby’s safety is my top priority. All poses are baby-led, and I use safe posing techniques to ensure your little one is never in an uncomfortable or risky position. If our little one doesn't like a certain pose, I do not push them to do it! I let them lead!
This is your time to sit back, relax, and let me handle the magic. There’s no need to stress if your baby is fussy—I have plenty of tricks to soothe them, and we have all the time we need. The studio is filled with snacks, water, soda, toys for siblings, and even a bed if you need nap ;)
Expect a proofing gallery 7-10 days post session. You will select your favorites and I will then edit them! I take great care in editing each image to perfection. You can expect your final gallery to be ready within 2-3 weeks from the date of your session. My editing style enhances the natural beauty of your baby while maintaining a timeless, authentic feel.
You’ll receive access to a private online gallery where you can view and select your favorite images. I also offer optional in-person consultations if you’d like assistance choosing prints, albums, or wall art.
Dress Comfortably: The studio will be warm, so wear light, breathable clothing.
Neutral Colors Work Best: If you plan to be in photos, stick to neutral tones to keep the focus on your baby.
Embrace the Moment: Every newborn session is unique—don’t worry if things don’t go exactly as planned. Sometimes the spontaneous moments are the most magical.
Newborn sessions are about more than just capturing beautiful images—they’re about creating lasting memories of this fleeting time. I’m here to guide you every step of the way, so you can relax and enjoy the experience.
Thank you for trusting me to document this special chapter in your life.
